Justin Verlander has ANOTHER no hitter going through 7

Is it just me or does it seem like Justin Verlander flirts with a no-hitter every other start? He has one going against my Los Angeles Angels through 7 today. Keep in mind that he already has two career no-hitters. Anyone know what the shortest time frame is between a team getting a no-hitter and then being no-hit themselves? Ervin Santana of the Angels just got one last Wednesday.

MLB.com will have live coverage of the 8th and the 9th (if it gets that far). You can watch the video below.

Angels call up top prospect

The Angels have called up 19 year old Mike Trout to the majors and put him in the starting lineup tonight.

Earlier this year Mike Trout was named the #1 prospect in baseball by MLB.com ahead of Rays pitcher Jeremy Hellickson and Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper. It will likely be a short stay for him in the majors with the year Peter Bourjos is having but you never know.

The organization needs the energy in the worst way right now. It has been a while since a high profile prospect has come on and made a big impact on a regular basis. As an Angels fan I hope his career is more like Jered Weaver and less like Dallas McPherson and Brandon Wood.

I will neither confirm nor deny that I wrote this just so I could mention that Mike Trout will be roaming the same outfield that Tim Salmon did not so long ago.

MLB has already put the Yankees in the World Series

Has MLB never seen the “Dewey beats Truman” picture? Clearly they haven’t because there is just no justification for this ridiculous act. I was reading the Los Angeles Times and look what I found. Here I was thinking the only major sports uproar today would be about baseball going head to head against the NFL tonight.

How does MLB justify already selling merchandise on their website saying “New York Yankees American League Champions”. Are you serious?

I know and fully understand that a lot of this stuff is printed ahead of time but how can you be advertising it on your website already? Everyone knows MLB would prefer the Yankees in the World Series for ratings purpose but you’re setting yourselves up for major criticism if calls go against the Angels tonight since you know, MLB has already put the Yankees in the World Series.

Did MLB not learn anything from that guy who had a book up on Amazon available for pre-order about the undefeated Patriots?

At last check MLB had not fixed this on its site.

Do you remember other incidents like this one? Please share.

Nick Adenhart (1986-2009)

I just can’t believe it. I watched his start last night….went to bed and then woke up to the unfortunate news that he was killed by a guy who ran a red light. As I would find out later in that day not only did the driver who hit him run a red light…..but was also drunk……and also driving the car with a suspended drivers license for…….you guessed it a prior DUI. He fled the scene but was arrested a little while later.

Still catching up to all the news reports of this. As you all know I’m a big Angels fan and have been hearing the Angels raving about him for the past 4 years. I had forgotten that he went through “Tommy John” surgery at the end of the 17. The Angels took him in the 14th round but still gave him first round money because they knew the talent that was there. It really does suck that through all that he finally makes it to the majors and gets killed on the night of his 4th start. He had actually flown his dad in for the game last night from Baltimore telling him “something special is going to happen.”

He had really great potential. One of the top prospects in the league and the top prospect in the Angels organization. Have been looking forward to his rise to the majors for the last 2 years. 22 years old…..it’s a shame. How the hell can you live with yourself knowing you killed someone and tried to run away? Hopefully this guy gets a long term jail sentence.

C.C Sabathia

I can’t be the only person who does not want C.C Sabathia on their team correct? You have no idea how much it is bothering me that after being relatively quiet over the years with Free Agency the one year the Angels go after a pitcher is this year….and with Sabathia no less? This upcoming contract has disaster written all over it for some team….God willing it won’t be the Angels. He’ll be well over 300 lbs by the end of the contract…..and still stinking it up in the playoffs. Normally I would compliment an athlete who takes less money to go play somewhere…but not in this case. Please let Sabathia go anywhere but to the Angels. Come on Yankees….open up your wallets for him.

Should see a bunch of transactions next week with the winter meetings. I hope Teixeira is back with the Angels.

“Rarest of rare”

Legendary broadcaster Vin Scully referred to is as the “Rarest of rare” in the top of the 9th with 2 outs. Why such a distinction? The Angels as a pitching staff were pitching a no-hitter. Weaver went 6 innings before being pulled for a pinch hitter in the 7th having thrown 97 pitches. Arredondo came in and pitched 2 more no-hit innings. This led to the 9th inning as the Angles were down 1-0 not having allowed a hit all game. Here is how the 9th went:

– T. Hunter struck out swinging
– C. Kotchman grounded out to second
– H. Kendrick doubled to left
– M. Napoli walked
– R. Willits hit for J. Arredondo
– R. Willits struck out swinging

0 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors
LA Angels 0, LA Dodgers 1

“Rarest of rare” indeed. I have never seen anything like this. I believe this is the 4th or 5th this has happened in MLB history. I’ll list the other ones as soon as I can find it. If someone else finds it first please post it here with a link. Thanks.

Update

Yeah, it is that time of the year again when I promise that I’ll start updating this thing and then forget again. Or maybe this time will be different.

Let’s see presently I’m occupied following the Pakistan/England series. Annoyed at the way my Angels lost to Chicago. No idea what to think of my Raptors…..I hope all the idiots who wanted VC gone are satisfied. Still getting used to the new NHL. There are far too many goals for my liking but this hockey is better then no hockey. What can I say about the 9ers? It looks like we’re gonna miss out on Bush too.

Oh yeah, the Canadian Elections are coming on January 23rd. Remember to vote NDP.
